We do not have rigid, pre-made teams or strict job descriptions for this weekend. Why? Because community technology is a giant puzzle, and every person who shows up brings a unique puzzle piece!
A successful community project doesn't just need computer scientists. It needs people who understand the land, people who can tell stories, and people who know how to bring neighbors together. When you register, you don't have to lock yourself into one track. You can mix, match, and share your talents wherever you feel inspired!
You know the water and the trails. Help find the best places along the river for community projects, and help plan future outdoor "Paddle Out" kayaking trips to look after them.
Raw data can be boring on its own. Use your imagination to turn numbers into human stories, design what our public websites should look like, and write narratives that support the National Park initiative.
Bring ideas to life at the GEAR Lab! You can experiment with building blocks like simple electronic boards, solar panels, and waterproof boxes. You can also explore how radio waves send information over long distances, or help build easy online maps and charts that anyone can understand.
Great projects only work when people talk to each other! Help lead our group discussions, keep our workshops running smoothly, and ensure our work always honors the culture of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.
Do I need experience? No! We will teach you everything you need to know.
Do I have to come both days? Coming to both days is best, but you can choose to come to just Friday or just Saturday on the sign-up form.
Who owns the data we collect? The Muscogee (Creek) Nation owns the data, because the river is on their ancestral land. Everything we build will be free and open for the community to share.
